Energy Saving Should Start From You

By Shriya Vijay Kharade, a student of The Orchid School.

Hey everyone!

Today, I want to share how I’ve been saving energy at home and making a difference for our planet. It all started when I noticed that our electricity bill was way too high, and I knew I had to do something about it. I realized that a lot of our energy was being wasted. So, I decided to check out where we were using the most power. It turned out that our lights, old appliances, and poor insulation were the main culprits. I knew I had to make some changes!

First I told my family about this neglected issue and we discussed about how we could handle it. We decided to use solar energy instead of heaters while bathing. Then we started keeping windows open during day which reduced the use of lights till afternoon. Doing this made a huge difference in our daily energy consumption. I started sharing these tips in school too.

It is always good to limit the use of anything but you shouldn’t overdo things. Here’s a funny story that happened once. One summer, during a heatwave, my mom was determined to save energy by keeping the air conditioning off as much as possible. One evening, we were all sitting in the living room, sweating buckets, when suddenly my dad had a brilliant idea. He grabbed a bunch of ice packs from the freezer and started distributing them to everyone. We all ended up sitting there like a bunch of makeshift penguins! It was a hilarious sight, and even though we were still sweating, we couldn’t stop laughing at the absurdity of our DIY cooling solution.

Needless to say, we quickly learned that sometimes it’s better to just crank up the AC and enjoy the comfort! It’s awesome to see others making changes too. It feels great to know that we’re all doing our part to save energy and help the environment. Saving energy isn’t hard. Simple things like using LED lights and turning off appliances when not in use can make a huge difference. Let’s all do our part to take care of our planet!
