Expert Profile

Prof. Vidya Mahambare is an economist specialising in employment and labour markets, monetary policy, gender norms, and social welfare outcomes. She holds a doctorate in Economics from Lancaster Management School, UK, and a master’s degree from the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune, where she was awarded the Pandurangi Prize for first rank.

Her research has been supported by prestigious grants from the World Bank South Asia Gender Lab, the Mercatus Centre’s Emergent Ventures (2020 and 2022), and Azim Premji University. She is a member of the Expert Committee of the State Planning Commission of Tamil Nadu on Employability and Skilling.

Prof. Mahambare has published widely in journals including World Development, Feminist Economics, and Journal of Policy Modelling. She regularly contributes opinion pieces to Bloomberg Quint, Mint, the Economic Times, and the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on Bloomberg, BBC, NDTV, and WION.

Prior to her academic role at Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM), Chennai, she served as Director and Principal Economist at CRISIL and was previously associated with Cardiff Business School, UK.
