The Brief

What this project is really about

From potholes to garbage piles, from broken streetlights to water shortages—our cities are full of problems that affect people’s daily lives. But here’s the big question: Do most citizens know how to get these problems fixed? In this project, you will become civic superheroes—finding out how your city’s grievance redressal system really works, then turning that knowledge into a physical awareness campaign that anyone in your community can see, read, and use. Your mission is simple: Make sure every citizen knows exactly how to report a problem and get it solved. In this project, you will: Phase 1 – Learn    • Study how urban governance works:    • Municipal corporations & municipalities    • Roles of councillors, ward offices, and mayors    • Official grievance redressal channels (helplines, apps, online forms, complaint registers)    • Understand why citizen awareness is important for accountability. Phase 2 – Investigate    • Pick 1–2 common urban problems in your area (e.g., garbage overflow, unsafe crossings).    • Interview residents: Do they know where to file a complaint? Have they tried? What happened?    • Test the process yourself: Call a helpline, use the official app, or visit the ward office to file an actual complaint (with permission).    • Document your findings—what worked, what didn’t. Phase 3 – Create an Awareness Campaign    • Design a set of 2–3 A3-sized posters or large infographics for public display that clearly explain:    • Your chosen citizen grievance    • Step-by-step how to file a complaint    • Contact details of local authorities/offices    • Citizens’ rights and responsibilities

Project Journey

Four phases. One real outcome.

Here's exactly what you'll do — and in what order. No surprises.

1

Phase One

Research & Discover

Immerse yourself in the problem. Gather real data, talk to stakeholders, and understand the landscape from primary and secondary sources.

Week 1
2

Phase Two

Analyse & Ideate

Find the patterns. Identify root causes, generate multiple solution ideas, and stress-test which approaches are genuinely feasible.

Week 2
3

Phase Three

Design & Build

Create your solution — whether it's a prototype, proposal, campaign, or product. Make it real enough to show an actual audience.

Week 3
4

Phase Four

Present & Reflect

Present your work, field questions, and articulate what you learned. Document your journey so others can build on it.
